1930-1939 Seasons Stats

1930-39

The 1930s were witness to many first time events in NFL and Chicago history. In 1930, on an 80 yard field, Chicago's first indoor football game was played inside Chicago Stadium. The Bears defeated the Chicago Cardinals 9-7 in an exhibition game in front of 10,000 people. Then in 1932, the Bears won their second NFL Championship in the same building, beating the Portsmouth Spartans 9-0. The 1933 season ended with the NFL's first official Championship Game where Chicago defeated the New York Giants 23-21 to take their second and final championship title of the decade. Prior to the start of the 1934 season the Bears would participated in the inaugural College All-Star game. This was a charity event where the pros would play against a team of star college seniors from the previous year. The Bears ended up in a scoreless tie in front of almost 80,000 people. The event would run annually until 1976, with the exception of 1974, and was played at either Soldier Field or Dyche Stadium in Evanston. Chicago would also obtain the distinction of having the first back in the NFL to ever rush for 1,000 yards in a season. Beattie Feathers, a rookie out of the University of Tennessee, would end up with 1,004 yards on 119 carries to finish out the 1934 season.
